GROUND has been broken at Lidl’s newest store in Limerick, with Mayor John Moran on hand this past week to turn the first sod.

Lidl is currently building its latest store in Towlerton, Ballysimon, which will mark Limerick’s sixth outlet by the German retailer.

30 jobs will be created by the new store, with up to 100 construction jobs being supported throughout the store’s construction.

Planning permission was granted by Limerick City and County Council for a mixed-use development at the new suburb in Towlerton, which will see the new Lidl store built, as well as commercial, residential and office space.

Limerick Educate Together School was opened in the new suburb last year, and the new Bon Secours hospital is currently also under construction.
